Greentown Labs + Nominal
Nominal is partnering with the Greentown Labs to deliver Connected Test to the front lines of climatetech
Nominal exists to help hardware engineers move faster with confidence. We help engineering teams turn ideas into working prototypes, and prototypes into scaled systems. By accelerating test, we accelerate progress. And nowhere is that speed more urgent than climatetech.
That’s why Nominal is partnering with Greentown Labs, the largest climatetech and energy incubator in the world, to deliver connected test and operations to its community of innovative startup members and corporate partners. Greentown members will receive free ‘test consultations’ – best practices for building test infrastructure, accelerating iteration cycles, and scaling from prototype to commercial hardware.
Solving for speed-to-scale
Good ideas alone aren’t enough. The barriers to widespread adoption of new technologies are speed, scale, and efficiency.
‘Test’ introduces ideas to reality. Success doesn’t mean proving a prototype works in the lab. It means successfully passing the same procedure every time, under load, across sites, with changing software and conditions. And when it does fail, it means quickly understanding why, fixing it as fast as possible, and shipping it out again. Because every moment counts.
The Nominal Laboratory at Greentown
To meet the challenge head-on, we’re opening the Nominal Laboratory inside Greentown Houston. We’ll be boots-on-the-ground in a 30,000 sq-ft facility tailor-made for energy and climate hardware teams.
The large-scale projects that matter – pipelines, grids, refineries, ports, storage – are here in Houston. The next generation is being built inside Greentown’s thriving community of 200+ startups. It’s the table where climatetech teams meet industry and scale. Nominal is pulling up a chair.
Office hours will be practical and hands-on: test design clinics, instrumentation plans, HIL app prototyping, data model reviews, and “shot-to-decision” workflows for teams moving from lab to field.
Delivering faster test where it counts
Nominal is the digital infrastructure for velocity across critical technologies – carbon capture, clean energy production, energy storage, industrial decarb, and more.
Carbon capture
Before: CSV dumps + manual plots after a trip. Root cause unconfirmed
After: Real-time checks on ΔCO₂/ΔP, solvent conductivity, reboiler duty. Track historical trends for patterns.
Impact: Higher uptime and faster diagnosis-to-fix loops.
Hydrogen
Before: One long endurance run, post-hoc energy balance.
After: Parameterized campaigns (many short runs) across temp/humidity/current; per-run kWh/kg and degradation slope computed in-run.
Impact: Higher test coverage and faster decisions.
Energy storage
Before: BMS alarms without synchronized thermal/video context.
After: Multimodal evidence (telemetry + IR + logs) with auto root-cause templates; variance by cell lot tracked over time.
Impact: Higher first-pass yield and improved test safety.
Industrial decarb (power electronics, electrified processes)
Before: Firmware + rig revisions break procedures across sites.
After: Versioned procedures with review gates; identical checks across Boston and Houston
Impact: Reduced cross-site drift and faster bring-up.
These aren’t hypothetical. These are the systems that must scale this decade. Each with different chemistry or physics, but the same need: faster test, faster validation
Join us in the Nominal Laboratory
If you’re a Greentown member or partner, book time in the Nominal Laboratory here. Bring your messy data, your flaky rig, your “we can’t replicate it” bug, your “we need ten tests a day, not one a week” goal. We’ll map the fastest path from where you are to a test loop that compounds.
Climatetech doesn’t need slogans. It needs velocity — more tests per day, more fixes per week, more deployments per quarter.
The clock is ticking. And the future moves at the speed of test.
